Eyebrow Threading

Eyebrow threading is a technique by which a piece of thread is used to remove facial hair.  It originated somewhere in the east and supposedly dates back to ancient times.  Threading is becoming increasingly popular in the west, mostly in urban areas.  Its like plucking, but instead of removing one hair at-a-time, it removes multiple hairs with the sweep of a twisted thread.  Threading claims to pull hair out from the roots, however, try as I may, this method of hair removal makes it impossible for me to examine the removed hair to see if  a blub is present.  Unlike waxing or any method of hair removal where the product, and removed hair, adheres to a strip of clothe, which can then be easily examined.

What I like most about threading, is that it allows me to offer an alternative to my clients.  This is especially important for my clients on acne medication or those using an aggresive resurfacing product, which oftentimes thins the skin and make it just too sensitive.  Even though the antibacterial/antimicrobial soy-base botanical product I use is very gentle, I was still a bit hesitant when using it on clients' faces that were already overly sensitive because of products/medication they were using at the time.

I do find that with eyebrow threading one can't help but get more of an angular result, because of the angles one must hold the thread.  In my opinion, this angular look does not sit well on all faces.  It can make some faces look a bit harsh, almost cross.  I will incorporate a bit of plucking in the end to soften the look.  I was once told that the plucking I was doing at the end was bad for the skin.  How this woman came to this conclusion, I have no idea.  Common sense dictates that if you thread, which after all IS plucking only at a much faster rate, then individually plucking a few hairs afterward should be alrightie then.

So many American women and men are embraceing threading whole heartily, never looking back.  I have, however, had Indian women, on occasion, staunchly decline any threading, because of the ouch factor.  I akin the waxing method to the ouch equivalent  of quickly removing a bandaid--ouch! But with threading its more like, ouch!, ouch!, ouch!, ouch!, ouch!, ouch!, ouch!, you get the picture.  Of course, not everyone are such cry babies, lots of women and men get these procedure done, without a flicker of a hit, of a ouch. I've been told that a hair removal session was down right relaxing, I kid you not.  And I've, quite unintentionally, converted another middle eastern client from threading to using my very gently soy-based method.  After having several other areas done, she attributed the quickness and extraordinary smoothness of the skin to her change of mind.

There is one thing I know for sure, either my clients LOVE IT or HATE IT.  There is no so-so feeling about threading.
